Feb 12 Update

Time to put the umbrellas away! It has been an interesting week weather wise but now that the snow banks are lower and the lake is done pretending to be liquid again it is time for us to get back to winter. A touch of snow this evening is helping the appearance of winter to return. The forecast for the weekend is looking quite good. Unfortunately, the sledders might not like the conditions until next week’s snow that is forecast. Looking at the lake it might be a good weekend to go skating or get a game of hockey going. Just don’t hit the puck too hard or it might end up at the other end of the lake. We have lost a fair bit of snow but it is still early in the game and there is lots more to come. Saturday the 14th of Feb. (nudge, nudge) for those that might have forgotten looks like it is going to be a great day weather wise. It might be a great day to get your significant other out for a walk, snowshoe, trek across the lake to the cottage, etc. We are still keeping quite busy around here with an amazing amount of people stopping in while out exploring the area. I think it is the Kawartha Dairy ice cream craving that is driving the masses!! The holiday weekend might have something to do with it as well. We are closed for Family Day on Monday and re-opening on Tuesday the 17th. We wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day and a great winter long weekend.

Feb 5 Update

Just an update before the weekend. The trails are looking quite good and ready to use. Some of the small link trails between lakes are a little bumpy as it is hard to get the groomers across the lake through the slush. The slush is getting better and shouldn’t be as bad this weekend. A reminder the Buckhorn District Snowmobile Club is having a pancake breakfast at the clubhouse this weekend followed by a 50/50 Rally and family fun ride. They would like to see lots of people out supporting this worthwhile cause. The trails to the clubhouse will be table top I am sure! The weather looks to be interesting but I am sure that like always they have been known to be wrong every once in a while. Have a great weekend!

Feb 2 Update

Back again, after a short time away. Sorry for the down time but we managed to sneak away to a warmer spot for a few days and now back to the reality of the good ol’ north. The weather hasn’t been too bad around here for the last while other than the snow just keeps piling up. There are a number of roofs that are getting quite deep with snow in the area. Some of the cottages out in the open are doing fine but the protected ones are sure holding their snow. I am starting to think that shovel thing is a permanent part of our arms as of late!! There has been no rest for the guys plowing around here this winter. The snowmobile conditions are fabulous with the exception of last weeks snow load starting to make the lakes quite slushy. On close inspection today the slush is probably over a foot deep in alot of places. Hopefully, the cool temps promised for the latter part of the week will freeze this back up again. The groomers have been out doing a great job and the trails are holding up quite well considering the large volumes of traffic that are out enjoying them. The long range forecast is looking like it will be a great weekend with warm temps and some more snow! This won’t help for building rinks but will certainly make all the rest of the winter activities look good to be out enjoying! The folks at Anstruther Marina have been enjoying a great turn out each weekend for the great food they are serving up. Our community center is also open for soup and sandwiches on Saturdays and Sundays as well. They are open from 11-3 to feed the hungry sledders etc. in the area. We will be closed on Mon. February the 16th for Family Day so mark that on your calenders if you happen to be up and in the area. Have a great week and as always back again later!
