Feb 4 Update

Finally, I am back. It has been really crazy around here and between computer issues, being away the last week plus etc. I think we are getting back in to a schedule again. The lakes seem to be good to go now but there is only a light dusting of snow on them. This will make it not too bad for skating etc. but it will be a game of catching the snow to keep the sliders and machines from over-heating. As usual, one has to watch the areas that are never safe to travel and avoid those areas. The trails as of this evening are actually pretty decent considering we definitely need more snow. There is still some rocks sticking through but they are as flat as possible considering the base the club has to work with. The weather forecast is looking pretty decent for the weekend as well so it might be a good weekend to come and play at the cottage. The picture to the right shows the other hazard on the lakes as of the last week or so. There is some decent pressure cracks forming on the big lakes so beware of these so you and the machine don’t end up needing attention of the kind you don’t want!! They are about 2-3 feet high in places. It is better to venture out in daylight hours to ensure you know where they are than to go blasting down the lake at night and find out the hard way! For the fisherpeople it sounds like the fish are starting to bite again in the (legal ones to fish) back lakes. To the rest that can’t make it up for the winter weekends, sorry but it is sure sounding like a nice weekend to be here. Cheers for now.

Jan 12 Update

Well most of the trails are now officially open. The trails are in not too bad of shape considering there is definitely more snow required in the immediate area. The club has done a great job getting them ready. There is still a fair bit of water running in the woods so some crossings are still a little wet but passable. Just to the north of us the trails have lots of snow and are fabulous. Catchacoma Lake is still very unsafe to travel. Sunday it looked like it was still open on the North Central part. Some people are starting to travel Mississagua and the smaller lakes now. As always use caution and travel at your own risk. It has been great seeing so many people up last weekend enjoying the area in the winter. We were quite busy with all the folks out enjoying what turned out to be a nice weekend! A reminder if you are thinking about a new boat the Toronto Boat Show is on till the end of the week so stop in and take a peek at the new toys for summer 2010. Have a great week!

Jan 3 Update

Happy New Year! The holidays have gone quickly to say the least. The lakes are still not safe and there is a couple of young fellows that can attest to that. Everyone is safe and the old adage of asking us locals still holds true, so before you venture be sure to check with the local fellows and definitely don’t try it out after dark!! The rink at the community center is looking great and the fishing season is on again on the local back lakes. I haven’t heard of any monsters being caught yet but they are out there so I am told!! We hope everyone has had a great holiday season and we are back in full swing again tomorrow. The snowmobile trails have been being worked on tirelessly, but nonetheless not officially open yet. There is a lot of prep work to be done yet and mother nature has to do her share too. Keep an eye on the link on our website to the BDSC site to know when the trails are officially open. Mississagua Lake froze over on the 29th but with the snow of late it will be a while before it is safe so please don’t try crossing it for a while. The sled sales are going strong the last day or so if there is something that is of interest you better jump on it quickly because they are disappearing quickly. Back in a bit!
