March 25 Update

Another nice week under the spring skies. There seems to be some frost in the forecast for tonite and the next couple of days. -14C will almost make it feel like winter again. This should slow down the melting of the ice. The ducks and geese are trickling back in to the area and trying to find spots where the water is a little more liquid state to wash off all the dust from their long flights. The wild leeks are even starting to poke their leaves out throught the ground on some of the southern facing sidehills. It is nice to get out and enjoy the area before the BUGS start. We actually saw some disoriented mosquitoes the other day. They were so lost that they weren’t even thinking about dinner. The ice is still here but definitely not safe so watch the pets to ensure you don’t have to find that canoe to go rescue them. Enjoy the weekend.

March 18 Update

Wasn’t that just about one of the warmest St. Patty’s days on record. What a gorgeous week it has been, but the forecast looks like reality and a touch of winter is on it’s way back. There has been quite a few up enjoying the March Break and out enjoying the weather whether it has been skiing up in Haliburton or just walking the trails. There is still snow, not large amounts in the woods. A little further north by Salmon Lake etc. there is more to be found but again the vast majority is gone. The ice is pulling away from the shores a little now but that is more to do with the level of the lake starting to rise. Although, the ice is still quite thick it would be very wise to stay off of it in case one finds a drain hole where it will be quite damp and cold!!! The roads are still soft so be careful if venturing in to the cottage on the cottage lanes so you don’t get stuck. Have a great weekend!

March 12 Update

A quick update. The Buckhorn District Snowmobile Club has closed the trails for the weekend. The weather forecast obviously isn’t condusive to snowmobiling. As a result we will be closed on Sundays until further notice unless Mother Nature changes her mind and gives us lots of snow to re-open the trails.
