Jan 25 Update

Back for another update. The lakes are looking pretty good with lots of tracks. There is a fair amount of slush out there but they seem to be passable. We were out for a short while on the trails today and listening to comments from others. The trails are in a limited condition and passable but that is the height of it so far. They desperately need some or alot of folks to do a very large snow dance!!!!!!!!! It is definitely winter with lots of ice huts on the surrounding lakes and people out enjoying what we have so far especially with the milder temps this week. Apparently, contrary to last year the fish are biting on the lakes surrounding our immediate chain from what the rumour mill is saying. The lakes that are supplying fish seem to be top secret though!! If you are planning a trip up don’t forget your shovel and skates to enjoy the weekend!

Jan 12 Update

A quick update. We haven’t received the snow that has been falling to the south so this has helped the lakes freeze up quite a bit. I will never be one to say they are safe but they are all being traveled now quite extensively. Just check before you go to ensure that you are going to arrive. The trails are still virtually snowless so the rocks are sticking through quite well. Have a great week and think snow!

Jan 7 Update

Happy Belated New Years! We hope everyone had a good holiday season. An update on ice conditions, the big lakes are still not in my mind, safe to cross yet. We haven’t had any significant ice gain since the 30th of December. The back lakes north of here are seeing some traffic but even most of those only have maybe 7-8 inches of ice and there seems to be lots of water flowing so that is making them ones to watch anywhere they narrow in. The snowmobile trails are still virtually impassable as the snow is so fluffy and very minimal. There seems to be a number of rinks along the shoreline but I wouldn’t venture out too far testing unless u feel like a polar plunge. Hopefully, next weeks temps will help to start making some ice and then we can ask for snow so it doesn’t slow down the process. The rink at the community center looks awesome and is ready for those impromptu pick-up hockey games. Have a great weekend and hopefully the weather people are right and it will be the wintery weekend we are looking for!
